The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, as part of their "EZOlogical" social contribution activities aimed at realizing their corporate philosophy of "Sports Community," will be conducting the "Ezo Deer Outreach Program with Frepp" again this year, in collaboration with the Wildlife Management Division of the Hokkaido Environmental and Lifestyle Department. We are now seeking elementary, junior high, and high schools, as well as universities and vocational schools in Hokkaido that wish to host this outreach program.
In 2021, EZOlogical held the "Learn and Taste Ezo Deer with Frep" class at ROSTER, a restaurant directly managed by the Fighters, which was very well received. In 2022, we will bring this directly to schools, providing more people with the opportunity to learn about the challenges facing Ezo deer and human society, such as damage to agriculture and forestry and the increase in traffic accidents, as well as the impact of culling on the ecosystem. We will continue this program this year with the aim of helping children and students, who will be the leaders of the next generation, to acquire correct knowledge and to learn in a fun way with our mascot, Frep.

"I was able to learn about things I didn't know before, like Deer Day, in a fun way."
"The slides about the Hokkaido deer were easy to understand."
"I learned things about Ezo deer that I didn't know before, and it was good to have a renewed understanding of the importance of life."
"Frepp entertained me a lot, and I had a great time. I also learned a lot about deer, and I was especially surprised to learn that there are so many deer in Hokkaido."
"It was great to be able to touch the antlers and fur of the Hokkaido deer, and the meat was delicious."
"I'm glad I got to take a picture with Frepp."
EZOlogical is...
As symbolized by the fact that the Fighters' mascots are three different species—a red fox (Frep), an Ezo squirrel (Polly), and a bear (B.B.)—Hokkaido is home to diverse flora and fauna, forming a rich ecosystem. On the other hand, the impact of our human lifestyle is no exception in Hokkaido's nature, and various problems lurk between plants, animals, and humans. These problems will come back to haunt us and future generations in the form of our food supply and the natural environment as a tourist resource. Therefore, these three mascots have stepped up to engage in activities such as promoting coexistence with natural flora and fauna, raising awareness of environmental issues, and conservation efforts.

In the outreach program, participants will learn about the ecology of Ezo deer and the problems they currently face through lectures given by Hokkaido prefectural officials and Frep. Following the lectures, there will be an opportunity to experience the utilization of the precious resources of the Ezo deer, such as hides and meat, through a tasting of Ezo deer meat or a craft experience using antlers and hides.
